Background

  • The Punjab Criminal Prosecution Service (PCPS) was established vide Punjab Criminal Prosecution Service (Constitution, Functions and Powers) Act 2006. Basic purpose of this legislation was to ensure prosecutorial independence and provide for an effective & efficient service for the prosecution of criminal cases.
  • Ever since the setup of prosecution was new, formal training being sine qua non for the newly inducted prosecutors was need of the hour. There was no training outfit for professional development, skills enhancement and refreshing of knowledge of the prosecutors. To cater this need Prosecution Department entered into a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding with Punjab Police and GIZ (an operating agency funded by German Foreign Office) in June 2012, whereby CPD was established in a building comprising of two rooms owned by Punjab Police located at Police Training College (PTC) Chung. Refurbishment of the building was completed in October 2012 and handed over to the Department along with hostel facility for 40 officers by refurbishing another building in close vicinity at PTC Chung. This made the training organ functional in form of a foreign funded project. The institute started conducting Induction Trainings (for Assistant District Public Prosecutors) and Expert Trainings (for senior tiers of prosecutors).
  • On September 16, 2014, CPD got the status of an attached department of PPD. Thereafter the office was shifted to 85-Shah Jamal, Lahore in February 2015, and later, in July 2016 it shifted to, at 17-A Shah Jamal, Lahore and is currently working here. Both the aforesaid buildings were rented premises. Since then, it has taken its operationalization to the next level, as various diversified trainings are being conducted as per the approved training calendar along with hostel facility to the participants.
